This valuable resource for the Texas State community is led by Officer Kendra Marsteller who is a familiar face to the University. Officer Marsteller came to San Marcos from Houston, Texas and is a first-generation graduate receiving a Dual Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Sport Science and Criminal Justice from Texas State. While Officer Marsteller was working towards her degrees she was employed in the Health and Human Performance Department and completed an Internship with the Kyle Police Department. She left Texas State to receive a Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati in Criminal Justice. Officer Marsteller has been in and around law enforcement her entire life following in the footsteps of her two cousins who service in various positions within state and federal agencies. She has worked diligently volunteering her time by attending the San Marcos Citizen Police Academy, Hays County Citizen Sheriff’s Academy, Kyle Citizen Police Academy, and San Marcos Citizen Fire Academy. Officer Marsteller has received recognition from the San Marcos Fire Department as an Outstanding Cadet and a Public Service Award from the University Police Department. Officer Marsteller has worked as a Fire Fighter, Dispatcher, Constable, and Police Officer. Officer Marsteller has an extensive background reaching 13 years in Victim Services working with the San Marcos Police Department, and she continues to work in this position to this day. Since Officer Marsteller’s return to San Marcos she has worked for the University Police Department. During her time here at UPD she has passionately worked towards her Mental Health Officer Certification, Sexual Assault Family Violence Investigator Course, Field Training Officer, Advance Peace Officer License, K9 handler, and a continues training within Emergency Management and Counseling services. Officer Marsteller currently serves UPD as our full-time Mental Health Officer with her Therapy Dog Brady as well as our Victim Services Liaison.
